- Capital Playhouse Artistic Director, Jeff Kingsbury, stars in our season closer, Man of La Mancha. In the 16th century Miguel de Cervantes, poet, playwright, and part time actor, has been arrested together with his squire, Sancho Panza, by the Spanish Inquisition. Cast into a dungeon, Cervantes finds his most treasured manuscript threatened by fellow prisoners. In a desperate attempt to save the script he stages an unusual defense with costumes, makeup, and the participation of other prison mates: the story of Don Quixote. Featuring an award winning score, including the ever-popular The Impossible Dream, this “up from the ashes” metaphor is at times hilarious, horrifying, and inspiring.
